K arim is working for Meridiam since 2016 as Director Asset Management based in Dakar (Senegal).
He’s in charge of managing the Portfolio of participations within the Meridiam Investment Africa Fund with a focus on West & Central Africa.
His responsibilities cover projects construction, ongoing management and operational phases.
Karim has managed the construction of Senergy and Ten Merina 2X30MWc solar plants in Senegal as well as serving in the Board of Directors for various infrastructure projects including Owendo Mineral Port (Gabon), Kingele hydro project (Gabon) and NEOT Offgrid (Ivory Coast).
Prior to joining Meridiam, Karim has been working for more than 12 years at leadership positions in the Power and Telecoms industry particularly in North and West Africa for global players like Matforce (Cummins Power Generation dealer in West Africa), Ericsson, Aggreko International Power projects and Man Diesel &Turbo.
Karim is graduated in Business & Project Management from CNAM Paris and London Business School.

MERIDIAM: Dakar, Senegal
Meridiam Infrastructure Africa Fund / Asset Management Director

Portfolio Management of participations within the Meridiam Investment Africa Fund.
Responsible for the projects construction, ongoing management and operational phases within the West African Region.

Delivered Solar projects in 2017:
- Senergy 30MW : 12 months construction period / operational since July 2017 /
project was delivered on time & under budget
- Ten Merina 30 MW / 10 months construction time / Expected Commercial Operational Date
October 2017


MAN DIESEL & TURBO: Dakar, Senegal
Business Unit Power / Area Sales Manager- West Africa
Aug 2014-June 2016

Projects & Accomplishments:
• Through my local market knowledge, I was able to increase the sales funnel by 15% within 2 months bringing unknown tenders from Burkina Faso, Mali and Benin.
• Increased company visibility and reputation into the market through my regular visits & advices to prospects.
• Improved the local partnership bringing three new EPC companies which directly impacted market coverage.
• Successfully used personal network with high value information on competition and key decision making criteria, to decisively impact the sales and tender participation strategy.
• Challenged the status quo by providing a post induction report 2 months after joining, which in turn inspired the Board to take key strategic organizational decision improving the overall business orientation into Africa through a bottom strategic approach.


AGGREKO INTERNATIONAL POWER PROJECTS: Dubai, UAE
Respectively Area Supply Chain, Area Project Manager and Senegal Country Manager

Projects & Accomplishments:
• More than 700 MW turnkey fast track projects successfully installed on 8 weeks average lead-time and under budget in countries like : Senegal, Ivory Coast, Niger, Tunisia, Angola, Cameroon, Mali, Mauritania, Benin, Guinea, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Madagascar, giving critical electricity to thousands of people.
• Successfully led a number of pilot projects because of success ratios and ability to build and lead multicultural teams like the implementation of decisive lean projects including waste reduction in commissioning stocks by more than 60%, (200K$ savings per project) demobilization readiness anticipating all paperwork and processes allowing shipping back all fleet containers from 90 to 30 days following decommissioning, then improving fleet utilization ratio as well as initiating programs like best QHSE subcontractor award leading to reduce incidents during installation and commissioning phases.
• Implemented projects costs database helping sales team optimize P&L based on real project costs then increasing profitability.
• Highly contributed on building Group project management policies and best practices.


ERICSSON: Cotonou, Benin
Field Service Operations Logistics Manager

Projects & Accomplishments:
• For the Big Bang project of Moov Benin consisting in expanding their telecom network in more than 150 sites in very challenging lead-time of 1 year, I played a key role in the following areas:
o Set up of the warehouse into ready site packs reducing delivery lead-times by 50% and definitely eradicating delivery errors.
o Mentored and developed junior logistics staff on a period of 6 months allowing them to be able to repliquate best practices processes in countries like Ivory Coast and Togo.
o Successfully implemented a bonded warehouse system through close collaboration with local customs and end client, thus postponing customs tax and duties payment which positively impacted overall project cash management and profitability.


MATFORCE: Dakar, Senegal
Supply Chain Manager
Jan 2006-Jun 2009

Projects & Accomplishments:
• Played a key role in recruiting, building and growing the Supply Chain team
• Implemented supply chain processes and best practices
• Significantly reduced customs clearance lead-times from 20 to 5 days thanks to a weekly visual management system, then increasing customers and management satisfaction
• Implemented Group supply chain processes allowing Regional deployment in Ivory Coast, Gambia, Mali, Niger and Guinea Conakry as well on spot deliveries.
• Reduced customs fines by 70% thanks to peer cross checking of files before Management validation thus encouraging horizontal collaboration and teamwork: recognized as Quality Manager of the year in 2008 and best support department of the year in 2007 and 2008.
• Though innovative order tracking involving all stakeholders (internal and external), overall treatment time of importation files got down from 60 to 45 days for sea and from 20 to 10 days for air shipments.
• As internal quality auditor, played decisive part in the certification process ISO 9001 & 14001.
